Artist's statement
In response to a world increasingly complex and mechanized, this new work is focused on small, often unobserved animals. Each piece of " Small Worlds " is a specific species, some common, some rare, some endangered. My time spent studying and modeling these creatures affords a renewed glimpse into the natural world, always changing and always intensely fascinating. A potter for many years, my work evolved into sculptural forms and after forty years clay continues to be a primary medium of creative expression. I've hung these works on the wall at eye level to invite a change of perception and, it is hoped, an appreciation for these small animals we share this planet with.
